Who

Red Cat Records is an independent record store with two physical locations in Vancouver, BC. While they're renowned for their eclectic selection of new & used vinyl, many of their sales are for local concert tickets. They compete with major ticket distribution companies like TicketMaster, TicketLeader and Event Brite by slashing overhead ticket fees.

Why

Some customers of Red Cat Records report that they shop for concert tickets as frequently as they do for vinyls, while others report that they didn't even know about Red Cat sold tickets. Red Cat relies mostly on word-of-mouth to promote ticket sales, as this feature is not core to their company identity.

Red Cat's original website does very little to promote the concerts that they sell tickets for. Additionally, their concert listings page is an exhaustive list of 200+ events sorted solely by Month. Many users report that without Ctrl+F, they would be unable to find the concert they're looking for.

By improving findability, and promoting browsing on their ticket page, users will spend less time searching for a specific show and more time browsing for other events that might interest them. In doing so, Red Cat Records has the potential to increase their concert ticket sales.

What

Our initial task was to give Red Cat Records a new brand identity to encapsulate both the their values and services. We introduced two new bold logos to the Red Cat brand:

We then incorporated user feedback into the redesign of Red Cat Records' website. As prompted by the findings in our early usability studies, this user-centered design focuses on brand identity and findability, and promotes browsing of concerts.

How

I generated a medium-fidelity horizontal prototype in Figma in order to demonstrate the breadth of functionality across this web interface. The landing page illustrates all the elements of the original Red Cat website with extra emphasis on concert tickets. The concert listings page facilitates filtering of events by a number of different methods.
